Meet The Team

Ian Bougen – Managing Director

With the purchase of Pandect by Vestner NZ Limited, Ian ‘s role as owner/Director of Pandect Ltd has changed to Managing Director. Vestner were very keen to retain Ian as the head of the new company to ensure continuity of business and further grow and develop the business in the Pacific/Asia region.

Ian previously purchased Pandect the company in 2007 after many years of senior management and Directorships in New Zealand and overseas in commercial, not for profit, community organisations and trade associations. His early career saw him graduate with Honours from the NZ Police College and later his short O.E. turned into a 20 year stint of living and working abroad.

He is an experienced business professional holding a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors (IOD) and an active member of the business community through the IoD, Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce, NZMEA and other organisations. Ian is also a past Chair of the Christchurch Arts Centre Trust.

Ian brought a passion to the business and focus on providing a quality product and an outstanding customer experience. As he explained “I try to lead a organisation by having the moral courage to make decisions and take responsibility thereafter”.

Ian developed and grew Pandect to be New Zealand’s leading designer and manufacturer of low rise lifts.

The winter ski season is always a welcome time of year for Ian.  When the snow is good he can be seen on the slopes with other ‘bunnies’ (more like an old Jack Rabbit these days) and dealing with ‘pain management’!

Bevan Whiting – Design Engineer

The off-spring of the Pandect brand original lift designer, Bevan hasn’t fallen far from the tree in terms of his inquiring mind and bent towards innovation, design and engineering. After graduating Dux of School he worked with his father at Pandect for a time before undertaking a builder’s apprenticeship. Upon completion of his NZ Certificate in Carpentry and Electrical Service Technician he ran his own building company specialising in period restorations and design.

He rejoined Pandect in 2007 as Design Engineer (3D CAD Wizard!) and now with Vestner is responsible for Vestner’s research & development programme. His earlier building profession is invaluable in working with consultants and builders with regard the lift’s interface with the built environment.

Bevan has a young family who occupy a lot of his spare time however he still manages to restore classic motorcycles; play lead guitar and vocals in a local band (funnily enough, the band never plays at the same place twice!); and along with his minister wife he mentors and provides life skills counselling for youth in the community.

Nikki Macpherson – Sales & Service Administrator

Nikki is the newest member of the Vestner team coming from a background in sales and office administration in the lift sector.  She prides herself on customer service and going that extra kilometre to make sure customers receive a friendly and professional service.

From commercial clients to elderly folk enquiring about access solutions for their home, Nikki is there to help.

Daniel Marquet – Workshop Engineer

Daniel first worked as a mechanic servicing motor vehicles before commencing his apprenticeship with Pandect (now Vestner) on the ‘shop floor’. He passed with flying colours to become a Trade Qualified Mechanical Engineer - General Engineering.  Since that time he has been a key member of our production team and now oversees the workshop.

He takes a lead role in the manufacture of the more complex and custom built lifts and revels in the extra challenges and variety these projects present – as he says “they smoke my tyres”.

Daniel enjoys spending time with his young family and has an interest in tropical fish, especially Oscars. When holiday time comes, or weekend time allows, he looks forward to ‘heading for the hills’ hunting wild game, especially targeting venison and pork for the table, or alternatively for a spot of sea fishing.

Dave McDonald - Assembler

Dave joined Pandect (now Vestner) as an assembler in 2011 having previously worked as a technician in the geology department of the University of Canterbury and in the tyre manufacturing industry.

Lift assembly is critical to Vestner lifts finished product and as Dave puts it “there is great satisfaction in working on a product for several days knowing the finished product is going to improve the quality of someone’s day to day life”.

A keen runner with a few NZ titles to his name (he is currently the over 50 yrs South Island Cross Country Champion and Canterbury Road Champion in age group) Dave’s other passion is as a ‘rock hound’ and it’s not uncommon to see him roaming the hills and rivers of the country searching for interesting minerals and fossils. He has one of the best private collections of minerals and fossils in the country and is the current Secretary (and past-President) of the Canterbury Mineral and Lapidary Club.

 Kevin Legge- Assembler

Pandect’s (now Vestner) newest team member Kevin joined us mid 2014. He is a Trade Qualified Fitter and Turner and has a high degree of skill in this field.  Past work experience has seen him work in a variety of positions in the engineering sector.  Kevin is also able to keep a watchful eye over the component parts and the assembly process to ensure the lifts maintain their high standard of finish. Kevin recently commented “It’s great to be working in a job with plenty of variety and to be involved with a company and its product that is of benefit to the community”

A keen ‘4 wheel driver’ and member of the Canterbury 4 Wheel Drive Club Kevin enjoys trips away to the back country where he can experience parts of the country that most people don’t get to see. He says it’s fantastic to be able to do this with the camaraderie of like minded people.

Mark Veitch – Business Development & Operations Manager

Having worked in the health and disability sector for many years, Mark’s past experience and knowledge adds value to Vestner's customer service in providing access solutions for people with mobility needs and challenges.

Building & maintaining business relationships and having the ability to undertake larger projects is all part of Mark’s day to day work alongside overseeing the general operation of Vestner ensuring clients experience a professional and friendly experience. It is critically important to Mark that the company remains outcome focused at all times to ensure the best possible options and solutions are provided to clients.

Mark is keenly interested in the re-build of Christchurch, post earthquake, especially around the design of the CBD and the push for more inner city living. Aside from his strong family interests (a recent Grandfather), and desire to one day own an American muscle car, he is somewhat of a connoisseur of the local café scene and as such is often seen sampling the culinary delights of the region albeit always after a brisk walk or bike ride (allegedly!)

Uwe Groer – Production Manager

Uwe is Vestner’s ‘European connection’, originating from Germany, and has been an integral member of the Pandect (now Vestner) team since 2004.

Initially trade qualified as an electrician Uwe then obtained a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology, Dortmund, Germany and has maintained his NZ Registered Electrician Certificate. Uwe has a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked on solar power plants in Spain; solar furnaces for the German Aerospace Centre; and as a Research Fellow in solar thermal research with the Australian National University.  Uwe has the day to day responsibility for Pandect’s production output and is our electrical specialist.

Juggling the needs of a young family with his enjoyment of the ‘great outdoors’ Uwe and his family manage to make time for their passions of cycling, hiking and camping.

When asked what most amuses him working for Vestner he replied “listening to callers trying to correctly pronounce my name!” (For the record ‘Oover’)

Kathy Cowan – Accounts Administrator

Combining her Bachelor of Commerce degree with her previous experiences in a wide range of financial roles, Kathy looks after all day to day accounting functions for Vestner.  This challenging role is undertaken by her with tact and diplomacy to ensure accounts are both received and paid in an accurate and timely manner. Kathy says she enjoys coming to work for Vestner as she appreciates a company with professional financial and ethical business practises in place – “there are very few accounts hassles to deal with!”

This part time role with Vestner, allows Kathy to continue her work for the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival as Business Manager and Treasurer. She also maintains a very busy personal life looking after a ‘lifestyle block’; spending time with her grandchildren; and as a Bridge Club member. Combined with her love of gardening, wining/dining and travel we are amazed she still finds the time to support her husband’s motor racing activities!

Michael Veronese – Lift Technician

After initially entering the workforce as an Electrical Draftsman Michael gained his trade qualification as an Engineer in Heavy Fabrication and in furthering his skill set is now a Electrical Service Technician.

Having developed his experience and skills in Vestner's Pandect 1m and 1.5m lift series, Michael's focus in now on the manufacture and installation of the Pandect MAXIS series of lifts.  This change in focus has required Michael to further develop his overall lift expertise which he has mastered well.

An avid ‘car tinkerer’ and motorbike ‘trail rider’ Michael is also currently in the throes of obtaining his Motorsport NZ License with a view to indulging in weekend class racing. He is passionate about the great outdoors with his weekends and holidays full of climbing, mountain biking, hunting & fishing activities although being recently married and purchasing their first home the bets are on as to when he will finally become domesticated!

Roger Hughes - North Is Territory Manager

Based from his home and not being able to get anywhere fast due to the Auckland traffic, Rogers’ commute in the mornings involves managing the stairs to his office, (he should have a lift, we will need to work on that).

Roger brings to Vestner a diverse background that includes several years selling/installing and servicing stairlifts, private contracting including telecommunication and data, teaching electronics & electro-mechanical engineering, product sales/service and NZ managerial roles. He has travelled extensively with the leading companies in office automation. He is always leading from the front and has never asked anyone to do something that he would not.

Rogers’ belief is that “we need to make the time to do the job right, rather than having to create the time to do it twice”.

Rogers’ married with three children and along with his wife (Julz) they have owned and run (amongst other ventures) a commercial laundry and have just completed building a commercial kitchen for his wife’s new cookie venture.

“I like the sense of making a difference, building the relationships, selling the right solution, looking after the customers ongoing needs and following up on a job well done”.

Brett Sykes – Assembler

The newest technician to join Vestner, Brett comes with a range of technicial skills and experience from the engineering and manufacturing sector.

Platform lift and stair lift installation, servicing and repairs are all part of Brett’s day when working as the Service Tech for Vetsner.  Not only dealing with Vestner products, Brett can be involved with installing other companies lifts as Vestner works alongside companies supporting the lift industry in the South Island.

Outside work Brett enjoys his time with his family while juggling a interest in radio controlled cars and planes.
